Buildings & Grounds Supervisor


Job Summary:

The supervisor is responsible for oversees building maintenance projects, janitorial duties and painting detail. Manages lawn maintenance at all MWA locations, including lift stations and repump stations. Supervise a crew of five MWA employee and seasonal temp workers.  The Building and Grounds Supervisor also acts as security for all MWA buildings and properties.  

Essential Duties

  • Supervises personnel who perform major and/or minor custodial and painting services to ensure all building areas are clean and sanitary.


  • Inspects all MWA facilities and makes recommendations for repairs and replacements.  

  • Serves as a liaison between Director of Water Operations and external contractors.   

  • Assigns personnel to perform lawn equipment maintenance, and ensures minor repairs of all facilities and grounds are completed.

  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all MWA buildings, lift stations and repump stations.  

  • Responsible for upkeep of department 50 vehicles, tractors, lawn equipment and power tools.  

  • Oversees ground maintenance tasks, including cutting grass, trimming and edging shrubbery, manicuring flowerbeds and preserving fences.

  • Assists in the preparation of departmental budgets and monitors all departmental expenditures.  

  • Responsible for scheduling, staffing and approval of departmental payroll.  

  • Coaches, counsels, and manages performance of direct reports.  

  • Enforces sound safety and housekeeping practices.  

  • Provides or arranges the necessary training to new and existing employees.  

  • Responsible for conducting safety meetings and facilitating training.  

  • Collaborates with the director of Water Operations to ensure a team approach for the successful completion of projects.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested by supervisors or directors


  • Three years of supervisory experience and/or successful completion of an accredited supervisor/management training program.
  • Three – Four years of Facility Management experience, preferred.
  • Immediate level of Carpentry skills.
  • Building and Lawn Maintenance experience required.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking
  •  Ability to carry 50 pounds or more.
  • Frequent standing and stooping and, occasional sitting, crawling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
  • May occasionally require climbing and involve traveling over various terrains.
  • Requires work in all types of weather, including extreme cold, heat and rain 

Salary: $15.50/hr
