The Georgia Association of Water Professionals 2019 Annual Conference and Expo was quite the event for the Macon Water Authority (MWA). Several employees received awards and accolades, while others led technical sessions to share valuable information with fellow water professionals concerning issues and operations impacting the industry in Georgia.

One of the most popular technical sessions hosted by the MWA was their presentation on the use of drone technology for water tank and water/sewer line maintenance. In addition, the MWA assisted with a case study on the benefits of a progressive design-build process for rehabilitating both of its wastewater treatment plants.

Congratulations are extended to the following individuals for their achievements:

• Brian McDade, an operator at the Amerson Water Treatment Plant, received the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) Operator’s Meritorious Service Award, which honors him as the best water plant operator in the state, as judged by the Georgia Chapter of AWWA.

• Gary McCoy, Director of Water Operations, received two awards – the Silver Water Drop Award for 25 years of membership in AWWA and GAWP Honorary Membership as “a person of eminence in one or more fields in the water profession.”

• Barry Boss and Thaddeus Clark received GAWP Life Membership Awards for maintaining active membership in the professional association for 30 total years.

• Mark Wyzalek, MWA Director of Laboratory/Environmental Compliance, received AWWA Life Membership for serving 30 years in the industry association and being at least 65 years of age.
