Fishing Season Halted at Javors Lucas Lake

Mar 25, 2020 by Chris Wood, Ph.D.

The MWA has suspended the current 2020 Public Fishing Season at Javors Lucas Lake until further notice, to promote social distancing to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) is suspending public fishing at Javors Lucas Lake, beginning on Friday March 27, and until further notice.

With this serving as yet another measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, MWA officials say they are exploring every means necessary to keep the COVID-19 pandemic from worsening.

The MWA’s closing of Javors Lucas Lake to the public is in line with other recreational facilities, bars, restaurants, etc. that have closed due to local emergency declarations, in an attempt to facilitate social distancing or keep large groups of people from gathering.

In fact, Macon-Bibb County Government has announced a related move to close Lake Tobesofkee to the public, due to similar concerns over the potential spread of the Coronavirus as a result of groups gathering at the site.

MWA officials add that they were seeing a larger number of guests, especially from out of town, coming to fish at Javors Lucas Lake during this first month of the season, a trend that would normally be welcomed, but not in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
