Fishing Season is Open at Javors Lucas Lake!

*With the COVID-19 pandemic heavily impacting social activities in Macon-Bibb County throughout this past year, the public can take some comfort in knowing that the Macon Water Authority (MWA) will continue to offer a safe and socially distanced opportunity for outdoor recreation.

The MWA has kicked off its public fishing season, opening Javors Lucas Lake to anglers who may need a therapeutic break from the uncertainty and instability created by Covid-19. Javors Lucas Lake will be closed for public fishing during the months of July and August but will re-open for two days per week on Saturday, Sept. 4.

The lake will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6.

From Saturday, Sept. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 31, Javors Lucas Lake will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The last day of public fishing at Javors Lucas Lake during 2021 will be Sunday, Oct. 31. The reservoir then will close during the months of November and December, as well as during the months of January and February of 2022.

The cost for fishing at Javors Lucas Lake is $5 per day when fishing from the shore and $10 per day for fishing from a boat. Season passes are offered for $50 when fishing from the shore or $100 when fishing from a boat.

Only boats with electric-powered, trolling motors are allowed on Javors Lucas Lake. Gas-powered boats are prohibited. The MWA does not accept credit card payments for daily or seasonal fishing passes.

All guests fishing at Javors Lucas Lake must adhere to the rules and regulations governing the public use of the Authority’s reservoir and Georgia Public Waters, as provided by the MWA and Georgia EPD, respectively. Since Javors Lucas Lake is a public drinking water reservoir, it adheres to more strict regulations and oversight than a typical recreational lake.
