MWA Amerson Plant Voted Best in GA
Jul 10, 2020 by Chris Wood, Ph.D.

The MWA staff of the Amerson Water Treatment Plant received the GAWP Best Operated Water Plant and Platinum Awards on behalf of the Authority, from GAWP President Pam Burnett (far left).
The Spring Awards of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) are intended to recognize the best water and wastewater facilities in the industry. While the GAWP Spring Conference was not held in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the water industry still recognized those water and sewer plants that were the best of the best in Georgia.
The MWA Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Plant was selected as this year’s Best Operator Water Plant of the Year, for surface water facilities with 50 to 75 million gallons per day (MGD) of treatment capacity.
This year marks the sixth time the Amerson Plant, with a current production capacity of 60 MGD, has received the GAWP Plant of the Year Award since opening in 2000. This is remarkable over a 20-year span, since facilities are not eligible for this award in consecutive years.
In addition, the Amerson Plant received the GAWP Platinum Award, for 100% permit compliance for at least five consecutive years.
Finally, the Authority’s Lower Poplar Street Water Reclamation Facility received a GAWP Gold Award for 100% permit compliance this past calendar year.
