MWA employees, board members, family and friends, mourn the loss of Jocelyn Hunt. She worked 26 years at the MWA, her last as Director of Wastewater Operations. Jocelyn also was a military veteran and leader in the industry and community.

It is with great sadness, and a devastating sense of loss, that we share the upsetting news that the Macon Water Authority has lost one of its most cherished and accomplished employees. Jocelyn Hunt, a water professional for 26 years and a leader at the Authority and within the industry, passed away Tuesday morning Nov. 27, following complications from surgery that was necessary in her treatment to fight Cancer.

Jocelyn left a positive impression on all of her colleagues at the MWA who knew her and worked alongside her, due to her incredible work ethic, professional achievements and credentials, unwavering character, and kindness and thoughtfulness toward others.

Jocelyn was a Licensed Plant Operator for both Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities, achieving the highest levels of certification in her field. In addition, she was a U.S. Military Veteran, who put herself through school to achieve both undergraduate and graduate degrees in applied sciences. She rose steadily through the ranks of management at the MWA, serving as Assistant Director of Water Operations until her promotion last year to Director of Wastewater Operations.

Jocelyn was a leader in the water industry within the state, providing volunteer service and leadership for the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP), as well as the American Water Works Association and Water Environment Federation, nationally.

During her impressive career, she received several industry awards and accolades, including the GAWP Top Operator Award and AWWA Operator’s Meritorious Service Award in 2004, which is the equivalent of being honored as the best water plant operator in Georgia. In addition, she received the AWWA Silver Water Drop Award this year, for eclipsing 25 years of service as a water professional. In 2015, Jocelyn was inducted into the 5-S Society, which is an honorary society within GAWP reserved for the highest achieving water professionals in the state, who are inducted by invitation only.

Jocelyn will be sorely missed by her family and friends, her fellow MWA employees and water professionals, as well as civic and church members she worked closely with on a number of causes during her life. Please keep Jocelyn’s family and MWA colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time when we mourn the loss of one of the very best people we’ve had the pleasure of knowing and loving.
