MWA honored with Spring Industry Awards

Jun 22, 2018 by Chris Wood, Ph.D.

Reggie Cooper (second from left), who was a part of the MWA team to receive the Water Distribution System Gold Award last fall, was inducted this spring into the inaugural class of the GAWP Golden Hydrant Society.

The MWA was well represented at the Spring Conference of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals, when the Authority won several awards for excellence in the operation of its water and wastewater plants, as well as its water distribution system.

Reggie Cooper was inducted into the inaugural class of the Golden Hydrant Society, which recognizes individual achievement in the field of water distribution.

The MWA Frank C. Amerson, Jr. Water Treatment Plant was recognized with a Certificate of Achievement, or honorable mention, for the Best Operated Water Plant in Georgia, while also receiving a Gold Award for achieving 100 percent permit compliance this past year.

Not to be outdone, the MWA’s two wastewater treatment plants also received state industry honors. The MWA Lower Poplar Street Water Reclamation Facility received a Gold Award for having no permit violations during 2017, while the MWA Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility achieved the Platinum Award for achieving 100 percent permit compliance for at least five consecutive years.

In fact, the MWA Rocky Creek Plant has operated without a single permit violation for 19 straight years. Only two other facilities in Georgia have had a longer string of consecutive years without a permit violation, putting the Rocky Creek Plant in rare company, indeed.
