The MWA will unveil a sculpted bust of former Chairman Frank C. Amerson, Jr. at its headquarters on Nov. 7, to commemorate his 35 years of service to the Authority and to Macon and Bibb County.

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) will be unveiling a sculptured bust of former Chairman Frank C. Amerson, Jr. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, immediately following the MWA November Board Meeting, at the utility’s headquarters on Second Street in downtown Macon.

The Authority, through the unveiling of the permanent edifice of Mr. Amerson at its headquarters, will commemorate his 35 years of service to the Macon Water Authority, with approximately 30 of those years spent as Chairman of the Board.

“Because of Frank’s service, leadership and lasting impact on the Authority and our community, we thought it was appropriate to recognize his lifetime of contributions to Macon and Bibb County in this way,” says Dr. Kirby Godsey, MWA Chairman, who was appointed to complete Mr. Amerson’s unexpired term.

Frank C. Amerson, Jr. joined the Macon Water Authority in 1976, serving his first six years as an Authority Member prior to being elected as Chairman, a position he held approximately 30 more years until his death in September of 2012.

The MWA Amerson Water Treatment Facility is named after the late Chairman, primarily due to his role in securing state and federal funds for its construction after the utility’s former Riverside Water Treatment Plant was damaged and decommissioned as a result of the 1994 flood. The site of that former Riverside Water Treatment Plant, which was donated by the MWA to provide property for a public use area near the Ocmulgee River and Heritage Trail, is aptly named Amerson River Park.

Mr. Amerson also championed the efforts to amend the Authority’s Charter by Act of the Georgia General Assembly, which now allows the MWA to invest money annually into a revolving fund to purchase land and install infrastructure at industrial park sites to facilitate economic development.
