Network Analyst

Compensation Philosophy:
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) compensation philosophy states that the starting salary for each pay grade will be competitive and fair based on the minimum requirements of each position. For candidates with a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience above the minimum requirements, MWA has the ability to offer a starting salary between the minimum and mid-point, with a possibility of a salary closer to the mid-point.
Job Summary:
The Network Analyst position is accountable for planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, Agency’s servers, and associated software. The Network Analyst troubleshoots network performance issues, analyzes network traffic, and provides capacity planning solutions. This individual diagnoses, resolves, and documents hardware and software network problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provides end-user training and support if required. In addition, this role is responsible for conducting research, evaluating network technology, and making recommendations for network equipment purchases while working to maintain information used for operating budgets. The Network Analyst will be responsible for communications with telecom technical partners and managing network-related projects
Responsibilities:
§ Analyze and resolve technical problems for established networks.
§ Plan, test, recommend, and implement network, Virtual servers, physical servers, Cloud-based products, and workstation hardware and software.
§ Work with various telecom items, including network equipment, monitoring tools, GPS systems, and display systems.
§ Work with team on security for all systems. • Serve as a technical specialist in network problems and emergencies.
§ Troubleshoot and resolve network production problems.
§ Consult with users and evaluate requirements, recommend designs, provide cost analyses, provide budget cost, plan projects, and coordinate tasks for installation of data networks.
§ Install, configure and maintain network components.
§ Determine plan layout for new hardware or modifications to an existing layout.
§ Install, upgrade, and configure network printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services.
§ Assess and recommend appropriate technologies to solve business opportunities.
§ Create technical documents for staff and management when completing procedures or projects. • Maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to supported networks and services
§ Manage our VOIP (including a call center) phone system by performing adds, changes, moves, and configuration changes.
§ Manage Switches at a primary level of support that will include understanding access control, VLANs, subnets, and firewall security protocols.
§ Manage our network’s physical aspect, including hardware and cabling (fiber and copper).
Qualifications:
§ Education, Certifications, and Experience
§ A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, network engineering, or related field is required.
§ 5+ years of progressively responsible related experience in the information technology field
§ 3+ years of prior experience in administrating and technical problem resolution of enterprise networking environments (WAN and LAN).
§ Industry certifications such as A+, Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or related are highly desirable.
§ Hands-on technical experience with Networking (wired and wireless); VPN networks; IP Routing/switching; Firewall management
§ Knowledge of a variety of software programs essential to MWA functions, including the MS Office suite of office productivity programs
§ A valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record.

§ Knowledge of:
o Network migration strategy and plans.
o Network planning at both business and technical levels.
o Network product evaluation, selection, acquisition, and deployment process.
o Network standards and guidelines definition process
o Network security models and methods.
o Hardware, software, operating systems, and networking protocols
§ Advanced knowledge of servers, local and wide area networking, switches, and routers
§ Ability to:
o Develop and write systems and applications documentation and guides for end-users.
o Develop systems solutions for operational problems,
o Gather information quickly and accurately diagnose problems.
o Operate network test equipment, and microcomputers
o Analyze data information.
o Maintain confidentiality.
