Emergency Alert. BOIL WATER ADVISORY
Emergency Alert. BOIL WATER ADVISORY
Date: September 1, 2024 Time: 6:24 PM System Name: Macon Water Authority Public Water System ID: 0210001GA0210001
Areas Affected: North Bibb County and parts of Monroe County. Specific locations are as follows: Zebulon Road, Bass Road, Tucker Road, Peake Road, Thomaston Road, Lower Thomaston Road, Monroe County, Lizella. Due to a significant loss of water pressure resulting from a water main break in your area, the Macon Water Authority is issuing a Boil Water Advisory to ensure the safety of our customers.
What This Means: When water pressure is lost, there is an increased chance that untreated water and harmful microbes could enter the water distribution system. To safeguard public health, we recommend that all customers in the affected areas boil their water before use.
What Should You Do?
• Boil Your Water: Boil all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. Let it boil for at least one minute. Cool before using.
• Use Bottled Water: If you prefer, use bottled water for drinking and cooking until the advisory is lifted.
• Discard Ice: Throw away ice made with tap water since September 1, 2024.
Potential Health Effects: The potential contaminants that may be present can cause gastrointestinal illness, with symptoms such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, and headaches. These symptoms are particularly concerning for infants, young children, the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.
Duration of the Advisory: This advisory will remain in effect until the water system has been repaired, water quality testing confirms that the water is safe, and the advisory is lifted. We will notify you immediately when that happens.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation during this time.
