Emergency Stormwater Pipe Repair Prompts Lane Closure on Mulberry Street Lane
Macon, GA — The Macon Water Authority (MWA) is responding to an emergency stormwater pipe failure in the Mulberry Street Lane alley at Third Street. A section of the pipe has collapsed after rainwater eroded the soil beneath and around it, causing the pipe to drop and fill with debris.
The MWA Stormwater Department has mobilized a local contractor to address this issue immediately. Due to the failure, a portion of Mulberry Street Lane will be closed, and traffic will be redirected as indicated in the attached map.
The repair work will involve removing the existing brick and terracotta stormwater pipe beneath Mulberry Street Lane and replacing it with a new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe that meets Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) specifications. The construction will take place within the alley to minimize disruption to nearby main streets.
Contractors are scheduled to be on-site today, Monday, October 13, 2025, and the road is expected to reopen by Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The Macon Water Authority apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as crews work to restore the area safely and efficiently.
