LANE CLOSURE/ DETOUR: Emergency Stormwater Pipe Repair (northwest side of First Street and Pine Street)
LANE CLOSURE/ DETOUR: Emergency Stormwater Pipe Repair
A section of the stormwater pipe has failed on the northwest side of First Street and Pine Street, resulting in a sinkhole. The old stormwater pipe has broken, allowing rainwater to wash away the soil underneath and around it, causing it to drop and subsequently leading to the road’s sinking. As a result of the failure, the southbound lane and the turning lane of Pine Street will be closed, and traffic will be redirected around the affected area until further notice. Please see the attached map. A message board stating “Emergency and Parking Deck Traffic Only” will be placed near the intersection of Pine Street and New Street. During construction, a flagman will be on-site to provide traffic control for emergency vehicles as needed.
This repair will include removing the existing 12-inch terracotta pipe under Pine Street and replacing it with a GDOT-approved 15-inch HDPE pipe. Crews will be on site today and will continue working through the weekend. A notification will be sent out once the work is completed.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and support.
