Lenora Place detour continues while MWA replaces damaged Stormwater Pipe
(Macon, GA – Feb.28, 2024) The Macon Water Authority (MWA) Stormwater Division and its contractor are working to restore a failed stormwater pipe on Lenora Place in Northwest Macon, where traffic continues to be routed around the construction site.
Due to excessive rainfall and subsequent flooding following storms in mid-February, a tree uprooted and pulled apart this 36-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP). As a result of the pipe damage, a portion of the road partially collapsed at 2433 Lenora Place.
The MWA Stormwater Division called in a local contractor to address this system repair. The contractor is in the process of excavating the entire road width to replace the 36-inch pipe. In addition, two water valves are being installed on each side of the repair, while the sanitary sewer is supported or replaced at this location as well.
As a result of the construction taking place at this site, Lenora Place will be closed, except for those street residents, until the project is completed. The MWA Stormwater Division and contractor anticipate construction will last until mid-March.
While construction to restore service to this portion of the MWA system is taking place, traffic will be redirected using Corbin Avenue to the east and Darden Drive to the west of the site. A map is available (here) to outline the route of the detour.
