Billing Technician

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) compensation philosophy states that the starting salary for each pay grade will be competitive and fair based on the minimum requirements of each position. For candidates with a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience above the minimum requirements, MWA has the ability to offer a starting salary between the minimum and mid-point, with a possibility of a salary closer to the mid-point.
Job Summary:
This role performs various administrative tasks involving the reviewing and editing of
bills and related work orders to assure accuracy before mailing. The position is also responsible for resolving customer billing issues and reducing
accounts receivable delinquency.
Responsibilities:
- Perform analyses/audits of data to ensure accuracy of reporting and billing.
- Interpret and apply policies, procedures, standards & requirements related to assigned responsibility.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and prioritize assigned tasks to meet deadlines successfully.
- Process daily in-house billing and mailing
- Correction to customer accounts for inaccurate billing due to meter reading
- Verifies accuracy of bills before mailing
- Prepares manually back bills calculation and letters
- Field Investigations and completion of Field Service work orders.
- Monitors delinquent work orders.
- A manual electric calculation for Jones County
- Processing of Illegal consumption
- Verifies and completes Service Billing portals and work orders created.
- Review and follow-up on system failed move-ins and outs
- Prepares adjustments to accounts when errors in data are noted or when corrections to accounts are needed. May generate an adjustment to the account or notify the customer of a problem (i.e., leak).
- Reviews zero consumption list and investigate accounts by coordinating with the work order Technical Coordinator.
- Completed account in User Portal unbilled and investigated by comparing data against work orders.
- Operating a DI-950 FastPac Document Inserting System
- Process negative or positive dye test results
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of Office methods and procedures with a minimum of 2 years of work experience in an office environment.
- Good judgment and analytical skills
- Ability to handle a high volume of work and able to multi-task
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with computers and applications (MS Word and Excel) and must type 40 WPM.
- Ability to utilize and understand computer applications and techniques as necessary in the completion of daily assignments
- Preferable: Prior experience working with invoicing/billing systems to bill water, electric, gas, telephone, or other monthly services to customers.
- Overtime may be required based on the needs of the business
- A valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional standing, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, or balancing
- Frequent sitting
- Ability to lift to waist level, pull, and push up to 60 pounds.
- Use hands for simple grasping, writing, drawing, and operating office equipment.
