The Macon Water Authority (MWA) compensation philosophy states that the starting salary for each pay grade will be competitive and fair based on the minimum requirements of each position. For candidates with a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience above the minimum requirements, MWA has the ability to offer a starting salary between the minimum and mid-point, with a possibility of a salary closer to the mid-point.
Job Summary:
The Fleet Maintenance Technician II performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and equipment owned and operated by the Macon Water Authority’s employees. The Fleet Maintenance Technician II confers with the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments. Organizes and prioritizes tasks in order to complete assigned work. Assists with training and instructing subordinate co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment.
Responsibilities:
Troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and A/C system failures; utilizes special diagnostic equipment and software; connects vehicles to equipment to diagnose issues and identify needed repairs; requests and gathers parts and supplies; performs and tests repairs.
Communicates with the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, other MWA employees, vendors, contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Checks instrument cluster and performs appropriate preventative maintenance and repairs.
Change oil and filters; tops off, and/or flushes fluids, including anti-freeze, power steering, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc.
Rotates, replaces, and/or balances tires.
Inspects and replaces brake components.
Lubricates and greases chassis and grease point.
Utilizes computerized maintenance software, assists with maintaining an accurate and up-to-date backlog status, ensuring accuracy of information on maintenance work orders, adjusting preventative maintenance labor hours based upon actual work, analyzing feedback reports for improvements and/or additional work requirements.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains all vehicles and equipment, two-post lift, cutting torch, welder, drill press, band saw stand- alone press, air compressor, pressure washer, pneumatic impact, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, shop tools, diagnostic tools and equipment, overhead crane and other tools and equipment.
Responds to and report fleet-related emergencies, concerns, and issues. Performs field repairs and recovery operations on vehicles and equipment.
Assists with vehicle and equipment repair estimate costs.
Assists with supervision of Fleet Maintenance Technician I staff.
Performs annual inspections on all trucks and trailers.
Performs cleaning of equipment, tools, and work areas in shop.
Performs essential duties of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in their absence.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of technical training in automotive services, auto mechanics, or a related field; supplemented by three years of experience in maintaining and repairing automobiles or medium/heavy trucks, is preferred.
Valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record; Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (minimum Class B) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
•Frequent walking, bending, standing, stooping, crawling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
•Ability to carry 50 pounds up to 100 pounds and occasionally over 100 pounds.
•Occasional sitting.
•Use hands for simple grasping, writing, drawing, and operating office equipment.
