Macon Water Authority Earns Platinum Awards for Excellence in Sewer and Water Operations
Company News
Macon, GA — The Macon Water Authority (MWA) has once again earned top honors from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP), receiving Platinum Awards for both its Sewer Conveyance and Water Distribution Departments. The Sewer Conveyance Department was recognized for achieving Platinum status for the 11th consecutive year, while the Water Distribution Department earned the distinction for the 5th consecutive year.
These prestigious awards are part of the GAWP Collection Systems Excellence Awards Program, which recognizes utilities that continually improve their systems through proper management, maintenance, and operation. Recently, representatives from GAWP visited the MWA to conduct the annual audit, which follows best practices outlined in the Capacity, Management, Operation, and Maintenance (CMOM) program. The evaluation encompasses preventative maintenance, system evaluation, rehabilitation efforts, and employee training, among other key components.
To earn a Gold Award, utilities must achieve a score of 95% or higher. Those scoring between 90% and 94.9% receive the Silver Award, while the Platinum Award is reserved for utilities that maintain Gold-level performance for at least five consecutive years. Platinum-level status can be maintained indefinitely as long as Gold-level standards are met each year.
This year’s audit team included representatives from Fulton County Public Works, Forsyth County Department of Water and Sewer, City of McDonough Public Works, and Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources.
“These awards reflect the dedication, expertise, and teamwork of our employees who ensure our systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently every day,” said Rachad Hollis, Communications Specialist for the Macon Water Authority. “Their commitment helps us continue providing high-quality service to the Macon-Bibb County community.”
The MWA remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of performance and safety for its customers and will continue to pursue excellence in all areas of water and sewer operations.
