Macon Water Authority Mourns the Passing of President and Executive Director Ron Shipman

MACON, Ga. 2/7/2026 — The Macon Water Authority is mourning the passing of its President and Executive Director, Ron Shipman, who died Friday evening.

Mr. Shipman was appointed Interim President and Executive Director in 2022 and was later named President and Executive Director, providing steady leadership and a deep commitment to public service. During his tenure, he worked closely with the Authority’s Board of Directors, employees, and community partners to advance critical water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects that support the health, safety, and economic vitality of Macon-Bibb County.

Before joining the Macon Water Authority, Mr. Shipman spent more than three decades with Georgia Power, where he held multiple leadership roles prior to his retirement. He brought that extensive experience and a collaborative leadership style to the Authority, earning respect from colleagues across the organization and throughout the community.

“Personally, Ron Shipman was a dear friend, and it is a personal and painful loss,” said Gary Bechtel, Chairman of the Macon Water Authority. “As a professional, Ron gave his all to the Macon Water Authority and was committed to its success. He was a leader in our community, serving in multiple capacities, and Macon-Bibb mourns his passing. On behalf of the members of the Macon Water Authority, we ask for thoughts and prayers for Ron’s wife, Anita, and his entire family.”
