MWA Crews Strengthen Safety Standards with Trenching & Excavation Training
Company News
At the Macon Water Authority, safety is more than a priority—it’s a responsibility. On March 20, 2025, 22 MWA employees participated in Trenching & Excavation Safety Training led by Senior Compliance Specialist Tom Bartlett.
This specialized training equips our team with the knowledge and skills to safely manage excavation projects throughout the community. Upon successful completion of the course and test, each participant earned the designation of Trenching and Excavation Competent Person.
A Competent Person is trained to recognize job site hazards and has the authority to halt work if unsafe conditions are identified. This ensures that MWA projects are conducted with the highest regard for employee safety and regulatory compliance.
Training Highlights:
- Safe excavation practices and OSHA requirements
- Soil classification for stability assessments
- Sloping, benching, and trench protection methods
- Use of hydraulic and timber shoring systems
- Personal protective equipment and site safety protocols
With this training, our crews are even better prepared to protect themselves, their teammates, and the public while maintaining the critical water infrastructure our community depends on.
