The Macon Water Authority held its annual Board Budget Workshop on September 23, 2025, continuing a tradition that spans decades under the last three MWA Presidents. Chairman Gary Bechtel and Board Members Elaine Lucas, Dwight Jones, Frank Patterson, and Bill Howell were in attendance.
This year’s workshop included a Water and Sewer Rate Study presented by consultants from Jacobs. Key highlights included:
- Nearly $249 million in planned capital improvements between FY2026–FY2030, including major upgrades at the Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility.
- A recommended funding plan that balances cash and bond financing to keep future rate increases moderate, averaging about 3% annually.
- A proposed tiered water rate structure that could lower bills for many households, with typical residential customers saving around $7 per month.
These discussions reflect MWA’s commitment to transparency and to planning responsibly for the future of our community’s water and sewer systems. MWA will hold its monthly board meeting on Thursday, October 2.
