The Macon Water Authority (MWA) Stormwater Management Division made significant strides in 2025 toward creating a safer, more reliable drainage system for Macon-Bibb County. Despite nearly 45 inches of rainfall last year, proactive maintenance and infrastructure upgrades helped reduce flooding risks and improve service across the community.
Major 2025 Highlights
Stronger Infrastructure
- Over 123 miles of storm pipes inspected
- Nearly 22 miles of storm drains cleaned
- 34 miles of ditches cleaned and graded
- 93 stormwater cave-ins repaired
Cleaner Streets and Neighborhoods
- More than 1,100 curb miles were swept in-house
- 1,612 tons of debris removed from streets
- An additional 2,320 tons of debris were removed from storm drains and catch basins.
Flood Prevention
- 1,626 catch basins cleaned
- 427 frames and lids replaced
- 4,845 feet of damaged pipe repaired or replaced
Smarter, Faster Service
- 3,528 total work orders completed
- Nearly 72% were proactive — created by MWA staff before residents ever had to call.
- Late utility locate requests were reduced to zero by the end of the year.
Major Projects Advanced
MWA completed or advanced key stormwater projects, including:
- Poplar Street Lane
- Plum Street Lane
- Central Business District
- Artic Circle
- Nowell Estates
- South Walden Road
- Liberty Church Road
These projects target some of the county’s most flood-prone areas.
MWA Stormwater Management continues to shift from emergency repairs to proactive maintenance, improving neighborhood drainage, protecting local waterways, and reducing long-term costs.
