The Macon Water Authority (MWA) provides opportunities for outdoor recreation and public education at its facilities, including access to Javors Lucas Lake for fishing and boating with non-gas-powered trolling motors.

2024 MWA Public Fishing Season Schedule

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) continues to provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and public education at its facilities, including access to Javors Lucas Lake (the Authority’s 581-acre drinking water reservoir) for fishing and boating (with non-gas-powered trolling motors).

Javors Lucas Lake Fishing Dates/Times:

  • Beginning Sunday March 3rd, and extending through Sunday April 28th, Javors Lucas Lake will be open for fishing three days per week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • From Friday May 3rd, through Sunday June 30th, Javors Lucas Lake will be open for fishing the same three days per week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Note: Fishing will NOT be available on Monday May 27, 2024 for the Memorial Day Holiday.

  • Javors Lucas Lake will be closed for public fishing during the months of July and August, but will re-open on Saturday Sept. 7, 2024.

Note: Javors Lucas Lake will NOT be open on Independence Day (Thursday July 4, 2024) nor on Labor Day (Monday Sept. 2, 2024).

  • From Saturday Sept. 7th, through Sunday Oct. 27th, Javors Lucas Lake will re-open, but for two days per week on Saturdays and Sundays, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Sunday Oct. 27, 2024 will be the last day of public fishing at Javors Lucas Lake this year.
  • Javors Lucas Lake will be closed for public fishing and boating during the months of November and December of 2024, as well as January and February of 2025.

Note: the MWA reserves the right to close Javors Lucas Lake on a scheduled fishing day, in the event of maintenance, inclement weather, natural disaster, system emergency, or for any other reason. You can always call the MWA Reservoirs Office for more information at 478-464-5650.

The 2025 MWA Kids Fishing Derby

Get ready for an exciting day of family fun at the 20th Annual MWA Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Javors Lucas Lake, located at 150 Broach Lane, off Upper River Road in Jones County. This free event is open to children and youth between the ages of 3 to 16, with prizes awarded in four age group categories, plus a grand prize for the biggest catch of the day.

To make the event even more thrilling, Javors Lucas Lake will be stocked with 1,000 lbs. of 13-16” trout and 500 lbs. of 13” catfish, courtesy of Aquatic Environmental Services. The lake has been closed for several months to ensure an abundant fishing habitat, and this event will officially kick off the 2025 public fishing season.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Location: Javors Lucas Lake, 150 Broach Lane, Jones County
  • Registration Opens: 7:00 a.m.
  • Fishing Starts at 7:30 a.m.
  • Awards Presented: 11:00 a.m.

Bring your bait and tackle, along with your enthusiasm for a great day of fishing and family fun! Refreshments will be provided for all participants.

Dedicated in Honor of Mr. Javors J. Lucas

Javors Lucas Lake was dedicated in November of 2006 to honor the late MWA Board Member, Javors J. Lucas. Mr. Lucas served the MWA and the citizens of District 2 in Macon-Bibb County for 36 years.

Fishing Tournaments and Group Events

Fishing tournaments and group outings are welcomed at Javors Lucas Lake, which is an ideal setting for families or organizations to host special events.

However, those with groups fishing during their own scheduled tournament must adhere to all rules and regulations governing the use of Javors Lucas Lake and Georgia Public Waters. Any groups requesting that Javors Lucas Lake open early for scheduled events must coordinate those logistics and pay for the security necessary to accommodate such a request.
