MWA celebrates Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia, prior to national Drinking Water Week
The MWA celebrated Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia, which preceded national Drinking Water Week (May 7-13, 2023).
MWA Water Professionals were treated to breakfast to kick off their Water Professionals Appreciation Day on Monday May 1, followed by a Mexican Fiesta on Friday May 5, to coincide with Cinco de Mayo.
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) established Drinking Water Week more than 40 years ago, to raise awareness of water professionals as essential workers, while providing an opportunity for water utilities and the communities they serve to recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
Since the passage of legislation in 2015, the state also has recognized the first Monday in May each year as Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia. In addition to providing an occasion to recognize and thank all water professionals in the state for the critically important services they provide, this event highlights the importance of clean water and its impact on economic development, quality of life, environmental protection, and public health.
