How the Macon Water Authority Board Works: Understanding Board Structure & Roles
Who serves on the MWA Board?
The MWA Board is composed of seven members:
- Four District Representatives- Elected by voters in their individual geographic districts within Bibb County.
- Chairman – Elected countywide in Bibb County and presides over the Board.
- Two Macon-Bibb County Appointees – Appointed by the Mayor of the Macon-Bibb County Consolidated Government.
MWA board members serve to oversee MWA’s policies and strategic decisions.
Who do board members supervise?
The Board has one direct employee: the President & Executive Director of MWA. All other MWA staff members report to the President through MWA’s internal chain of command — not to individual board members as indicated through the MWA bylaws.
What does the Board do?
- Sets the budget and approves rates.
- Approves large contracts and infrastructure investments.
- Establishes policy.
- Oversees the performance of the President/Executive Director
The Board does not handle day-to-day operations or individual customer service issues.
Why this matters:
Knowing the members of the Board and their roles can help you identify the right resources for addressing policy matters, service enhancements, or accountability inquiries.
