MWA Partners with GDOT on $1.3 Million Utility Relocation Project — Fully Funded at No Cost to MWA
Company News
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) has entered into a fully funded partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for a major infrastructure relocation project supporting the widening of I-75 from I-16 to Pierce Avenue (Phase VI) in Bibb County.
Under the agreement, $1,298,350 in utility relocation costs will be covered entirely by GDOT. MWA will not bear any financial responsibility for the project due to its established prior rights to operate facilities in the affected area.
The project includes the relocation and adjustment of critical water and sewer lines currently in conflict with the planned highway expansion. The infrastructure being moved includes gravity mains and force mains installed as early as the 1960s, all located within MWA-owned easements along the I-75 corridor.
The relocation work will comply with the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA), which requires that most construction materials used in the project are manufactured in the United States.
This agreement highlights MWA’s commitment to responsible utility planning and strategic collaboration while supporting regional infrastructure improvements.
At this time, no official start date has been announced. MWA will notify customers once GDOT authorizes construction and a timeline is confirmed.
