The Macon Water Authority has officially kicked off preparations for the 21st Annual Kids Fishing Derby, scheduled for March 7, 2026, at Javors Lucas Lake. The first committee meeting was held recently, bringing together staff from multiple departments to begin shaping this highly anticipated community event.
During the meeting, committee members reviewed early logistics, discussed ways to enhance the experience for families, and introduced new improvements for 2026—including updated online registration, sponsorship forms, and volunteer sign-ups to streamline communication and planning.
This year’s derby will once again be a free family event for children ages 3–16. With hundreds of young anglers and parents expected to attend, volunteers play a critical role in ensuring everything runs smoothly. From helping with parking and check-in to assisting at the prize station or along the shoreline, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.
