Stormwater Management Program Services (Level of Service)
Since Day 1 of assuming the oversight of Stormwater Management from Macon-Bibb County Government, the MWA has set its course on providing a comprehensive stormwater management program.
The following services are offered to Macon-Bibb County citizens through the current MWA Stormwater Utility.
* Repair cave-ins and sinkholes in public right-of-way;
* Repair, replace, and/or install stormwater pipe in public right-of-way;
* Repair or replace catch basins, frame casings, culverts, and manhole covers in public right-of-way;
* Clean clogged catch basins and storm drains on the public system;
* Provide ditch maintenance within the right-of-way;
* Maintain public detention ponds;
* Address public stormwater drainage issues;
* Provide continual street sweeping on public streets;
* Provide necessary preventive maintenance on the public system;
* Protect water quality.
Furthermore, a Comprehensive MWA Stormwater Management Program/Utility offers the additional benefits of:
* A dedicated and sustainable funding source;
* Stormwater Utility User Fees, which are similar to water/sewer rates charged for these public services;
* Stormwater User Fees charged for the use of services, or impact of stormwater runoff on the drainage system;
* Stormwater Use Fees can be used only for continual deliver of stormwater services, stormwater operations, or the implementation of stormwater projects;
* Note: over 70 communities have Stormwater Utilities similar to the MWA, which offers evidence of the successful implementation and management of these critical community services.
