Macon Water Authority Shares Water Conservation Tips Following Statewide Drought Declaration
Macon, GA — [4/27/2026] —The Macon Water Authority (MWA) is informing customers that the Georgia Environmental Protection Division has issued a statewide Level 1 Drought Response for Georgia.
At this time, MWA’s water supply remains stable, and there are no impacts to water service for customers in Macon-Bibb County.
A Level 1 Drought Response is the initial stage of the state’s drought management plan and focuses on public awareness and voluntary water conservation. It does not include mandatory water use restrictions.
“MWA is well-positioned to continue providing reliable water service to our community,” said Interim Executive Director Michel Wanna. “We encourage our customers to take simple, everyday steps to conserve water as part of being good stewards of this essential resource.”
As part of the Level 1 response, MWA is launching a public information effort to keep customers informed and promote water conservation practices.
Customers can help by:
- Fixing household leaks promptly
- Running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
- Turning off the faucet while brushing teeth
- Limiting outdoor watering to essential needs
Customers are also reminded that Georgia’s year-round outdoor watering schedule allows landscape watering between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.
MWA will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates if conditions change.
