Road Closure at Lenora Place while MWA Repairs Stormwater Pipe
(Macon, GA – Feb. 14, 2024) The Macon Water Authority (MWA) Stormwater Division is in the process of addressing a failed stormwater pipe damaged by heavy rain on Monday (Feb. 12).
Due to the excessive rainfall and subsequent flooding, a tree uprooted and pulled apart a 36-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP). As a result of the pipe damage, a portion of the road partially collapsed at 2433 Lenora Place in Northwest Macon.
The MWA Stormwater Division called in a local contractor to address this system emergency. Once rains subsided, the MWA contractor was on site to assess the situation and update the Authority on the extent of the damages and recommended approach for restoring or replacing the stormwater pipe.
As a result of the pipe failure and partial collapse of the roadway, Lenora Place will be closed, except for those residents, until construction on the repair/replacement of the pipe is finished. Authority officials hope the project will be completed within one to two weeks.
While construction to restore service to this portion of the stormwater system is taking place, traffic will be redirected using Corbin Avenue to the east and Darden Drive to the west of the site. A map is available (here) to outline the route of the detour.
