Compensation Philosophy:
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) compensation philosophy states that the starting salary for each pay grade will be competitive and fair based on the minimum requirements of each position. For candidates with a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience above the minimum requirements, MWA can offer a starting salary between the minimum and mid-point, with a possibility of a salary closer to the mid-point.
Job Summary:
Job Summary: The Network Technician position is accountable for installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, Agency’s servers, and associated software. The Network Technician troubleshoots network performance issues and various connectivity issues. This individual diagnoses, resolves, and documents hardware and software network problems promptly and accurately and provides end-user training and support if required. In addition, the Network Technician will be responsible for communications with telecom technical partners and managing network-related projects.
Responsibilities:
Analyze and resolve technical problems for established networks.
Work with various telecom items, including network equipment, monitoring tools, GPS, and display systems.
Plans, test, recommends, and implements network, Virtual servers, physical servers, Cloud-based products, and workstation hardware and software.
Work with the team on security for all systems.
Serve as a technical specialist in network problems and emergencies.
Troubleshoot and resolve network production problems.
Install, configure, and maintain network components.
Install, upgrade, and configure network printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services.
Establish user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for installed networks.
Work with vendors to resolve complex network problems.
Maintain confidentiality concerning the network’s information processed, stored, or accessed.
Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist personnel from other departments with any related technical matters, if required.
Oversee the installation of hardware and software.
Establish and coordinate MWA IT policies and procedures across the organization.
Support helpdesk operations, document network systems, operational procedures, and monitor hardware inventory for network
Helps to monitor all server backups daily for completion and accuracy.
This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve technical issues quickly and accurately to maintain an established service level of our core technologies.
Establish network user ids following the established security protocols for end-users, including email; this will include additional access control to various enterprise applications.
Develop and maintain system alerts related to performance or failure issues with the network infrastructure. This will include connectivity outside of our infrastructure (cell service, VPN, internet, PRIs, and similar technology)
Maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to supported networks and services.
Manage our VOIP (including a call center) phone system by performing adds, changes, moves, and configuration changes.
Manage Switches at a primary level of support that will include understanding access control, VLANs, subnets, and firewall security protocols.
Manage our network’s physical aspects, including hardware and cabling (fiber and copper).
Performs related duties as required or assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
An Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, or related fields is required.
2+ years of progressively responsible related experience in the information technology field
2+ years of prior experience in administrating and technical problem resolution of enterprise networking environments (WAN and LAN).
Industry certifications such as A+, Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or related are highly desirable.
Hands-on technical experience with Networking (wired and wireless); VPN networks; IP Routing/switching; Firewall management
Knowledge of various software programs essential to MWA functions, including the MS Office suite of office productivity programs
Clean driving record.

o Network migration strategy and plans
o Network standards and guidelines definition process.
o Network security models and methods.
o Hardware, software, operating systems, and networking protocols
Ability to:
o Gather information quickly and accurately diagnose problems
o Perform network tests on equipment and microcomputers
