The Macon Water Authority (MWA) has identified approximately $3.25 million in planned stormwater infrastructure improvements and drainage-related projects throughout Macon-Bibb County for Fiscal Years 2026–2027.
These initiatives include $1.55 million in proposed improvements to aging stormwater infrastructure in downtown Macon’s Central Business District and $1.7 million for the Fort Hill Neighborhood Drainage Project.
Downtown Macon Stormwater Improvements
The downtown improvements focus on aging and deteriorating stormwater infrastructure in seven areas of the Central Business District. Proposed work includes the rehabilitation and replacement of deteriorating stormwater pipes, installation of new access points, and cleaning and inspection of existing infrastructure to determine appropriate repair methods.
These improvements are intended to strengthen downtown Macon’s stormwater infrastructure and support the long-term reliability of the drainage system.
Fort Hill Neighborhood Drainage Project
The Fort Hill Neighborhood Drainage Project will focus on evaluating recurring flooding concerns near Second Street, Clinton Road, Gray Highway, and surrounding areas.
The project includes a comprehensive stormwater drainage analysis to identify potential causes of flooding, assess existing infrastructure, and develop feasible solutions to improve drainage conditions. Detailed design and construction would follow the approval of an appropriate solution.
