Small Changes. Real Water Savings.
General
Saving water at home doesn’t have to mean making major changes to your daily routine. A few simple habits can reduce water use, help lower utility costs and protect our community’s water resources.
Take Smarter Showers
A shorter shower can make a big difference.
- Try cutting your shower time by a few minutes.
- Turn off the water while shaving or lathering when practical.
- Consider installing a WaterSense-labeled showerhead.
- Check faucets and showerheads for leaks or constant drips.
Try the 5-Minute Shower Challenge: Set a timer and see if you can finish your shower in five minutes.
Make Every Load Count
Your washing machine can use a significant amount of water, so make each cycle worthwhile.
- Wash full loads whenever possible.
- If your machine allows it, select the appropriate water level for smaller loads.
- Use high-efficiency settings when available.
- When replacing an older washer, consider a high-efficiency ENERGY STAR model.
Simple rule: If you can wait until you have a full load, wait.
Let the Dishwasher Do the Work
Modern dishwashers can be an efficient way to clean dishes when used properly.
- Run the dishwasher only when it is full.
- Scrape food from plates instead of rinsing every dish under running water.
- Use eco or water-saving cycles when available.
- Check for leaks around the dishwasher and connections.
Water-saving tip: Don’t leave the faucet running while preparing dishes for the dishwasher.
Every Gallon Counts
Water conservation isn’t about going without. It’s about avoiding unnecessary waste.
Shorter showers. Full loads of laundry. Full dishwashers. Fixing leaks.
Small changes made by thousands of households can add up to millions of gallons of water saved over time.
Use what you need. Save what you can. Every drop matters.
