Get ready to cast your lines and reel in some fun at the 20th Annual Macon Water Authority (MWA) Kids Fishing Derby! This highly anticipated family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the picturesque Javors Lucas Lake at 150 Broach Lane, off Upper River Road in Jones County.
The Kids Fishing Derby is a free event open to children and youth between the ages of 3 and 16. Participants will be able to compete for prizes in four different age categories, with an exciting grand prize awarded for the biggest catch of the day. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young anglers to showcase their fishing skills while creating lasting memories with family and friends.
To make this year’s derby even more thrilling, Javors Lucas Lake will be stocked with 1,000 pounds of 13-16” trout and 500 pounds of 13” catfish, courtesy of Aquatic Environmental Services. The lake has been closed for several months to ensure an abundant and healthy fishing habitat, making this event the perfect kickoff to the 2025 public fishing season.
