Macon Water Authority Earns GAWP Platinum Award for Lower Poplar Facility
Company News
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) has earned a Platinum Award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals for its Lower Poplar Water Reclamation Facility, recognizing outstanding performance in wastewater treatment operations.
The award was presented as part of GAWP’s annual Gold and Platinum Awards program, which honors facilities across Georgia that demonstrate excellence in permit compliance and operational performance.
MWA’s Lower Poplar facility received a Platinum (P1) designation, signifying its first year achieving Platinum status after maintaining a consistent record of high-level performance. Facilities must first earn Gold-level recognition—reflecting 100% compliance with environmental permit requirements—for five consecutive years before advancing to Platinum status, demonstrating sustained operational excellence over time.
The Lower Poplar Water Reclamation Facility plays a critical role in treating wastewater for the Macon-Bibb County community while ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental standards. Achievements like this highlight MWA’s continued focus on operational excellence and environmental stewardship.
This latest recognition reflects the consistent performance of MWA’s wastewater team and builds on the facility’s prior success at the Gold level.
MWA remains committed to delivering reliable, high-quality water and wastewater services while protecting the environment for current and future generations.
