Macon Water Authority Named Local Issuing Authority (LIA) of the Year
Company News
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) is proud to announce that its Engineering Department has been selected as the Local Issuing Authority (LIA) of the Year for the state of Georgia—earning top honors among more than 400 LIAs statewide.
This distinguished recognition is awarded by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) and is based on performance in several critical areas, including quarterly and semiannual reporting, land disturbance activity (LDA) inspections, resolution of complaints, permit issuance, and plan reviews. MWA’s exceptional work in these areas has positioned the organization as a leader in regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.
When MWA assumed LIA responsibilities in 2021, the program was under a consent order through the Georgia EPD due to prior non-compliance issues. In just three years, MWA’s Engineering Department has successfully rebuilt and strengthened the program—transforming it into a statewide model of excellence.
Being named LIA of the Year reflects the dedication, professionalism, and attention to detail that MWA staff bring to their work every day. The recognition also underscores MWA’s ongoing commitment to protecting Georgia’s natural resources and supporting responsible development in our community.
Congratulations to the entire Engineering Department and all MWA staff who contributed to this outstanding achievement.
