MWA Board Members Tour Water and Wastewater Facilities

Throughout the past few weeks, members of the Macon Water Authority (MWA) Board of Directors completed a series of guided tours of the MWA’s key operational facilities, gaining firsthand insight into the processes that ensure clean drinking water and effective wastewater treatment for the community.

The first stop was the Frank C. Amerson Jr. Water Treatment Plant, where Board Members Elaine Lucas, Desmond Brown, and Valerie Wynn were given a comprehensive tour by Plant Director Jarad Zellner. The visit provided an in-depth look at the complex and carefully monitored process that delivers award-winning drinking water to MWA customers. President and Executive Director Ron Shipman and Assistant Executive Director/VP of Field and Plant Operations Michel Wanna were also present to answer questions and provide further context.

Board Member Elaine Lucas continued her learning journey by touring the Lower Poplar Street Water Reclamation Facility and the Rocky Creek Water Reclamation Facility. These tours were led by Director of Wastewater Operations Kate Kubesheski and Wastewater Operations Manager Ryan Bode, who guided the board member through each facility’s treatment processes. Shipman and Wanna were again on hand to provide support and answer questions.

These tours were part of a broader initiative suggested by Board Member Elaine Lucas during the May board meeting, where she encouraged fellow board members to visit the Authority’s key operational facilities. While not all board members attended these tours, those who did not participate indicated they were already very familiar with the different facilities from previous visits or experience.

With the completion of the tours, the MWA Board has further strengthened its understanding of the infrastructure, personnel, and dedication involved in providing high-quality water and wastewater services to Bibb County. These efforts reflect the Authority’s ongoing commitment to transparency, education, and responsible governance.
