This summer and fall, MWA customers may be increasing their outdoor water use, so please remember the current outdoor water use schedule in Georgia and other wise water use tips.
Currently, outdoor water use is permitted daily between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m., which is the ideal time to water outdoors. The late afternoons, evenings, and early mornings provide cooler temperatures to reduce evaporation.
Here are some additional tips and reminders to help you save water, both inside and outside your home.
Indoor wise water use tips:
- Turn off the tap while shaving, brushing teeth, or washing hands.
- Take showers rather than baths, since showers use less water.
- Plug up sinks for washing and rinsing dishes, rather than let the water run.
- Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when you have full loads.
- Keep a pitcher of tap water chilled in the refrigerator for drinking.
Outdoor wise water use tips:
- Use drought tolerant plants in your landscape and pine straw or mulch to retain water in planted areas, water lawns with 1-inch of water per week, and cut grass at longer lengths.
- If you have an irrigation system, check to make sure it’s working properly, and sprinkler heads are not leaking or watering driveways or walkways.
- Sweep or blow off driveways and walkways, rather than using a hose.
- Wash cars with a bucket and on-off nozzle on your hose.
- If you have a pool, cover it when not in use to prevent evaporation.
